either somebody was trying to be funny, or this is tied to Heavy Shld's Item ID being just one less than Mithril Shld's.

If it were a Paladin Shld, you could make a strong case for it being a bug. Since this is 'meh' either way, it's not so easy to say that... but I'll go out on a limb and say that it probably is. There are several other instances where they clearly got some nearby IDs confused (palette IDs, dialogue IDs, even item IDs in events...), so this team does not get the benefit of the doubt.

i already went out further on that limb by making a patch for it in 2012. (or as "far" as editing 1 byte with FF3usME can be considered.)
